This popular track is located just off State Highway 2 near Pokeno.

The upgrade to this track consisted of 682 metres of metal track, 257 metres of box steps and the replacement of an 8.5 metre timber bridge.

One of the challenges we faced on this contract was that all timber and metal were flown in by helicopter in 3 stages. There were very tall mature native trees covering the track which made the placement of the materials difficult using a helicopter.

The other challenge was working around the exposed tree roots in the track. Raised box steps were built over and around them as they were not able to be removed.

Because of the amount of steps and tree roots we could not use machinery so all the metal was laid by hand using wheelbarrows to shift the metal.
