Auckland Council – Rep. Michael Cairns
Engineers: Stellar Projects, Rep. Andrew Mackenzie
This contract consisted of two stages. At the start of winter, we constructed a 92-metre bridge/high boardwalk and a 144-metre section of low boardwalk. We sub-contracted a local builder, Kingdom Construction from Titirangi to work with our team to build the structures.
The next stage was started at the beginning of the year in summer. This work consisted of 5 remote campsites, a new toilet installation and 900 metres of bench and metal track. There were 22 metres of box steps and an additional 10 metres of boardwalk.
One of the challenges of this site was the remoteness. There was 4.5km of sand-dunes to travel on prior to arriving at the site. The team travelled with a six-seater ATV due to its location by the sea. Another challenge was working with the weather in the winter months. A helicopter was used for delivering timber in the first stage and metal and timber in the second stage.
